Epictetus once said, “It is impossible for a man to learn what he thinks he already knows.”
The greatest thing a Christian can do is to remain humble, needy, and hungry to learn. The Pharisees could never hear Jesus’ message because they already had everything figured out. From people to prayer, to fasting and observing the Sabbath, they (the Pharisees) were the religious standard. Even when Jesus confronted them with logic and sound reasoning from scripture, showing them their irrefutable error, they could not change. We too must always remain hungry, needy, and open-minded, but not so open-minded our brains fall out. So let me challenge you, each time you pick up your Bible to pray for understanding. Wrestle with the passage even if you think you know it. If your reasoning is sound then doing this can only strengthen your faith and if not God may just may show you something!
